Rocky Knoll Farm

Sapporo is a great rhododendron, which people adore for it's bright white flowers and striking dark purple-red blotch on the upper dorsal. Blooms emerge as pale purple and then quickly turn white and make up a showy full truss. This splendid plant sounds like it is Japanese, but it is actually a German hybrid from Hans Hachmann.

Sapporo has a somewhat compact growth habit, and it reaches around 4' tall at maturity. You will want to plant it in full sun to partial shade (especially in hot climates), and well-draining soil. This rhododendron is hardy to -10‚F when protected from windchill.
