R. yungningense (R. glomerulatum)

This dwarf species rhododendron has prolific lavender-purple blossoms with hues of blue and rose. Also known as Rhododendron glomerulatum, this lovely plant originates from the northern Yunnan and southwestern Sichuan provinces of China. It typically blooms as early as March, and through April depending on growing conditions. In addition to its beautiful blooms, it has attractive 3/4" elliptic lepidote foliage.

Excellent for rock gardens and well-draining areas, R. yungningense only grows to around 2' tall at maturity. It has an upright and rounded growth habit and likes full sun to partial shade. It is cold hardy to -15°F when protected from windchill.
