This one-of-a-kind rhododendron species is known as the "Firecracker rhododendron". You can see why as its unique showy tubular red flowers, bright pistils, and accompanying anthers put on quite a display! It is considered to be a long-bloomer as blooms can start in March and last for months, depending on growing conditions. 

Rhododendron spinuliferum has darker green lepidote foliage, and an upright growth habit that reaches around 4' tall x 3' wide at maturity. Place in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Hardy to 5°F when protected from windchill.
