R. occidentale Western Azalea 5203
A truly incredible R. occidentale seedling cultivar, we think this deciduous azalea is the bee's knees! We don't know of anyone else that has this plant available. It is fantastically fragrant, and its midseason blooms are outstanding. Reddish-pink and white flowers are adorned with a yellow-gold accent on the upper dorsal. The glossy, rich green foliage make for an excellent canvas to show off the wonderful blossoms, which usually show May-June, depending on growing conditions. Our bloom photos were taken at the end of May. R. occidentale is known to grow to about 5' tall when mature, and is hardy to -5°F when protected from windchill. Plant in full sun to partial shade.
