Rocky Knoll Farm
R. occidentale 'Frilly Star'
$37
This is an incredibly showy and uncommon Smith-Mossman discovery that is quite fragrant. Its crimson-magenta buds open to hues of white, rosy pink, and bright gold on the upper dorsal. This hard to find deciduous azalea has an upright and broad growth habit, and it can reach around 6' tall at maturity.
Frilly blooms will usually start to show around June, depending on growing conditions, and can last up to August. It will do well in full sun to partial shade and well-draining soil. Hardy to -10°F when protected from windchill.
