Miscanthus 'Purpurascens' Flame Grass

Miscanthus Purpurascens is a uniquely attractive ornamental grass that offers dynamic looks across seasons. Its newer rich green foliage turns to vibrant hues of orange and red as it transitions from summer into fall. Seed heads with hints of magenta form in summer and then turn to bright white feather plumes. The color and texture combination is incredible!

This grass is excellent as a standalone feature plant, or used in mass planting for a stunning effect. Either way, it makes for a fantastic winter display! It has a clumping and upright growth habit that reaches around 5' tall x 2' wide. This grass does well in full sun but can benefit from afternoon shade in hot climates. 

Flame Grass is easy to grow and tolerant of various soil types, although we recommend planting with well-draining soil to get it rooted. You can cut back to the ground at the end of winter (after the last frost) to promote a healthy new burst of spring growth. Hardy to -15°F when protected from windchill. 

Our 1 gallon grasses are rooted, fertilized and ready to burst with new growth. Some grasses grow very tall and change in size rapidly across seasons. If you order a grass that is very tall at the time, we will trim it as needed for shipping.
