Reliably large, rich red flowered trusses can yield to a lighter shade toward the center of the flowers. In fact, these incredibly blossoms have a pink hue when younger, and then continue on to their unique red hue.
This medium-sized rhododendron is very showy and does well in partial shade to full sun. Expect blooms to start mid-season (our bloom photos were taken in mid-April). Halfdan Lem is a very colorful hybrid rhododendron that can grow to about 5' in ten or so years, and is hardy to -5°F when protected from windchill.
