Rocky Knoll Farm
Coast Leucothoe (Coast Dog-hobble)
The colorful seasonal bursts, from green to the shades of rich crimson foliage of this evergreen shrub give it a look of multiple dimensions. It shows its attractive small white bell blossoms in spring. This plant can grow to about 4' tall and 6' wide, depending where planted and can be trimmed to maintain size as needed, and it responds well to pruning. Coast Leucothoe pairs great with rhododendrons and also should be placed in well-draining acid soils to prevent root rot. It prefers partial shade and is cold hardy to -5° F when protected from windchill. In extra humid areas it will require more sun to prevent leaf spotting issues.
