Rocky Knoll Farm

Carex elata - Bowles' Golden Sedge

$26

This colorful ornamental grass is definitely and eye-catcher, and it adds great character to landscaping. Its bright hues and striking features stand out against just about any background, and especially with mulch or gravel. It is not surprisingly the winner of the Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticulture Society. This semi-evergreen grass grows in an attractive mounding form and reaches up to 2' tall. It can spread to around 3' wide, but it can be grown in containers or confined areas.

This grass does well in full sun to partial shade, and thrives in moist, acidic soils. It can even tolerate a couple inches of standing water and is deer resistant. This is a versatile beauty that can make gardens, riparian zones, urban areas, beds and boarders look fantastic. We recommend planting them about 2' apart. Hardy to -20°F when protected from windchill. Blooms are insignificant as this grass is prized for its yellow and green foliage.

Our 1 gallon grasses are rooted, fertilized and ready to burst with new growth. Some grasses grow very tall and change in size rapidly across seasons. If you order a grass that is very tall at the time, we will trim it as needed for shipping.
