Rocky Knoll Farm

Calamagrostis Karl Foerster

$26

This excellent tall-growing grass is attractive all year. It can root in clay and wet soils, making it very versatile in terms of both growing conditions and garden options. That is to say that it is great for accents, slopes, hedgerows, container, coastal and urban growing. It has a great winter look as well with its attractive seed heads. As a bonus, birds like it and deer do not. The plant is a winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society, and 2001 Perennial Plant of the Year.

We recommend planting about 30" apart and cutting back mature stock to around 12" in early spring to promote healthy growth habit. This lovely grass reaches around 3' in height, but adds another 2'-3' when flowering in mid-summer and into fall. Hardy to -25° when protected from windchill.

Our 1 gallon grasses are rooted, fertilized and ready to burst with new growth. Some grasses grow very tall and change in size rapidly across seasons. If you order a grass that is very tall at the time, we will trim it as needed for shipping.
