Rocky Knoll Farm
Blue Baron
This compact mounded shrub has striking blue-violet flowers. Blossoms have wavy edges and there are about 20 per dome-shaped truss. Expect mid-season blooms, and grows in partial to full sun.
Blue Baron is hardy to -10°F when protected from windchill. This dwarf hybrid grows to only about about 2' tall so it makes an excellent addition to a small space or rock garden. The foliage responds to weather variations with spotting, which is normal.
PLEASE NOTE: Many blue-purple lepidote rhododendrons naturally develop spotting on older foliage as they emerge from winter. This is a normal seasonal characteristic, not a sign of poor plant health. As the growing season progresses, plants produce fresh new growth and gradually shed older leaves.
These are exceptional, fully evergreen plants that may appear almost semi-evergreen in late winter due to this natural leaf turnover.
Additionally, this condition reflects that our plants are fully hardened-off, having been grown outdoors in the elements rather than sheltered in a greenhouse. This results in stronger, more resilient plants that are well-prepared to thrive in your garden.
