Rocky Knoll Farm

Blue False Indigo - Baptisia australis

$26

Blue False Indigo is a showy perennial with long vertical spikes with deep blue-indigo flowers. The blossoms have exceptional character and color. Blooms continue to be more prolific as the plant ages, and they start as early as April and can go through July, depending on growing conditions. Butterflies really like this plant!

Its attractive lush green foliage makes an excellent contrast and has nice texture. Blooms turn to late season seedpods that become a visual interest in winter. It is the winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society.

Blue False Indigo is easy to grow and deer resistant. It does best in full sun but can take some shade. This perennial grows to around 4' tall and should be placed 2'-3' apart. Cold hardy to -30°F when protected from windchill.
