Abelia - Edward Goucher

$29

Edward Goucher is an excellent abelia shrub with lots of beautiful character. Swooping crimson stems are adorned with reddish calyxes and rich green foliage. Pink-violet blooms create a striking look in summer and into fall, which attracts butterflies and bees. The foliage takes on purple and bronze hues in fall, which provides an additional seasonal attraction.

This plant is a winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit of the Royal Horticultural Society, and for good reason. It is an excellent choice for slopes, beds, as hedges, container growing (good drainage required), and mass planting. It is easy to grow, low maintenance, and resistant to deer, rabbits and disease.

We recommend mild pruning in early spring, after the last winter frost, to promote new bloom-yielding growth and a fuller growth habit. Edward Gloucher requires well-draining soil, and it thrives in full sun to partial shade. It can grow to as large as 5' tall x 5' wide if not pruned to size. Optimal spacing is 48" to 60" apart. Cold hardy to -10°F when protected against windchill.
