Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa)

$29

The brilliant orange summer blossoms of Butterfly Weed (also known as Milkweed and Chieger Flower) draw attention in gardens and landscapes atop its fantastic spiraling narrow leaves. It has attractive spindle-shaped seed pods in fall for extra character. We love this beautiful perennial, and so do butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds! A tuberous plant, it has an attractive upright clumping growth habit that reaches 2' tall x 2' wide.

This low-maintenance beauty is important to monarch butterfly habitat, and it is excellent for beds, borders, meadow gardens, rock gardens and coastal gardens. The blooms are fantastic for creating dynamic floral arrangements. Butterfly Weed likes full sun and will root best in well-draining soil. It is hardy to -35°F when protected from windchill, drought tolerant once established, and deer resistant.
